General Help [TOP]

General Website navigation has been made simple through a centralized left navigation column from where you can reach most of the F.M.A. Website Resources. This navigation column is made up of a three level tree which expands its nodes when sublevels exist under the selected node. Each node leads to what we call a "category" which can be made up of one or more of the following,
  • - a Document (also called the content of a page) consisting of an introduction, a document body and additional information regarding the author, the publication date etc.
  • - (several) attached files that can be downloaded by clicking on them. These files are described by a name, a file type, a description and several other data
  • - (several) translation files that can be downloaded by clicking on them. These files are described by a name, a file type, a description and several other data. These files differ from attached files in the sense that they represent the same content as the page, but are translated into another language
  • - an "application" or information service i.e. a separate part of the website with a specific functioning (Discussion forum, the upcoming events agenda, ...)
Some other options can be reached at the top and bottom of the page, such as the search engines, the "what's new" application, the terms of use, the current help system, the "print this page option etc.
At the top of the page you can also change font size if you prefer bigger or smaller fonts, and you can switch from one application language to the other one (the available languages are French & English). You can also use the "Contact Us" application for suggestions, bug reports, questions or remarks. You then have two search engines to search for any content on the website and the "Quick Links" input fields to jump immediately to one of the main categories of the website.

The login button enables you to provide your login and password information in order to get access to the member restricted sections.

Forum Help [TOP]

The forum application allows registered users to post messages, to read other user's messages, to reply to them and to get an email notification when someone replies to their message.

The first page allows you to select a Forum from the list.

After selecting your forum of choice, you will be able to select a topic (or "a subject") or to post a new topic/subject. From there on you can select any of the subjects to access and read all posts on the selected topic. You can also post a new message (except if the moderation is set to be "A priori", which means an administrator or moderator has to validate any posted topic or message before it can be published on the public website.

This is where you can visualize the list of all the message titles that have been posted for this topic. You can read the content of any of these messages by clicking on it.

In the message interface, you will be able to reply to the message by clicking on the icon or to post a new subject by clicking on . If you think a message should not be there, you can click on the report abuse button to report inappropriate content to the moderator.

Hyperlinks Help [TOP]

A special section of the website is dedicated to interesting / useful hyperlinks. These links lead to external websites that are not part of your F.M.A. website. These links are categorised according to their types (useful, interesting, bargains ...)

Depending on your status, you can either add or suggest new hyperlinks. If you suggest a hyperlink, it means that an administrator will need to accept this link for inclusion.

Events Help [TOP]

The events or agenda application is a very useful tool that allows users to get time-related information, such as F.M.A. events, meetings ...

You can sort the events alphabetically or chronologically. Please note that chronological order works on the start date, and events are only displayed if their end date has not been passed.

According to your user level you can either add or suggest new events. You will need to specify an event name, an event start and end date which can of course be the same for punctual events. If you suggest an event, it means that an administrator has to accept it in order to make it appear online.

When you add or suggest an event, you'll first have to provide general information about the event (name, description, start & end dates, location and contact person). Then you will be able to add, if you wish, an image to the event that will appear on the upper-right corner of the event, and also one or more files related to this event. When you have uploaded all images and files, or if you don't want to add any file or image to the event, you can click on the "finish" button.

Newsletter Management Help [TOP]

Through this service you can send out newsletters and communiqués to your Members. The Newsletter application is divided into two parts : the "latest newsletter" page which is used to display the latest sent newsletter, and which enables you to consult previous (archived) newsletters, and the "send newsletter" parts.
To send a newsletter you need to specify some criteria that will be used to build the list of F.M.A. users that will receive this newsletter. The first option is to specify if you wish to send the newsletter to English speaking people or to French speaking people or both. Please note that this language selection concerns the language that the users are using when surfing on the F.M.A. website. This can especially be useful if you intend to send a newsletter in French and then another one with the same content but translated in English.

You can then specify the user language. This is the user mother language, which is not to be mixed with the website navigation language (someone speaking Dutch specified "Dutch" his or her language but is using the website in French or in English). If you do not specify any language, this criteria will not be used, and you will reach all users no matter on their specified language

You can also specify a country, if you want to send your newsletter to users from one country. This can be used together with previous option or not (example : all Flemish people should be selected by choosing Belgium as country and Dutch as language.)

In addition, you can also specify the user's organisation and a time interval (ex. to send a newsletter to all members from PPE-ED that were members from 1990 to 1998). Once again, this option can be combined with previous one if you wish.

After these options, you'll be asked to choose if the newsletter has to be published in French, English, in both languages or does not have to be published at all (this choice will not be used for the selection of F.M.A. members that will receive it but to know whether the newsletter will be published into the French or English language on the website in the "Latest Newsletters" pages).

You then finally have to specify the newsletter subject, and then the newsletter content. Once you are finished with this, you'll be able to preview the newsletter and the list of people that will receive it before sending it.

User Directory Help [TOP]

Detailed view
List view
Thumbnail view
User Directory enables you to get information about the other F.M.A. members.

You can select to browse the list of users in three different modes : detailed list, simple list (only the name and first name, allowing to see more users on a page) and thumbnails list (to see the pictures of the members). Due to the number of members, the lists have been paginated, which means that the results are divided into several pages, which you can select at the bottom of the list.
You can also search for members in multiple ways :
  • Enter the name or the first name of a user, or a part of the name or first name (ex. "OH" will return all members having "OH" in their name or in their first name, like "John" for instance)
  • Specify one of the organisations to list only members from that organisation
  • Specify a date interval, possibly in combination with the organisation (to get for instance members that formerly were in ELDR between 1990 and 1998)
  • Specify the first letter of the name (not first name) of the user to get direct access to people having their name starting with the specified letter
From any of these lists, you can click on a person to see his or her details. If you are the person that you selected, you will moreover be able to change (some of) your details. Please note that he two last options allow you to decide whether you want to receive the F.M.A. newsletter or not, and if you accept to receive newsletter sent from other members or not. You can also add, if you wish your picture from this interface by clicking on the "add picture" link. If you want, you can download the full members list by clicking on the "download database.xls" at the bottom of the page.

Photo Album Help [TOP]

The photo album application enables you to see the different photos albums that have been created. Photo albums are classified into categories. On the first page of the photo album, you will see the different categories and the photo album in each category. Please note that the first page only display a subset of 5 photo album per category, to see the entire list you need to click on the category name.
Once you selected your photo album you will see a list with all the photos. These photos are thumbnails, which means they are a small (in size & quality) copy of the original photo, to enhance loading time of the page on slow connections. When you click on any of these photos, you will be able to see the original photo with its name and description.
From the main list of picture, you can also suggest a photo (the administrator will have to grant the photo to make it appear online), consult the archived photos for the photo album, and download a WinZip file containing all the photos from the current photo album. This is easier than downloading all the photos one by one and also faster as the WinZip file is a compressed file, which means that it takes less space than the sum of the size of the original pictures. If you do not have Winzip installed on your computer, you can click on the "download winzip" link to get this (free) software used to decompress the photo album once you downloaded it.
