This High-level conference\, hosted by the Florence School of Transnational Governance (EUI) and organised jointly with European Parliament Former Members Association (EP_FMA)\, brought together former policymakers from the EP_FMA and the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians (CAFP)\, scholars and experts to critically examine these developments and their implications. \nDiscussions focused on the structural changes in international relations\, the resilience of political and economic institutions and the future of global governance. By engaging former policymakers from both sides of the Atlantic with diverse perspectives\, the conference aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the mechanisms shaping the contemporary world and explore pathways for stability and cooperation. \nThis conference took place within the framework of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians Delegation’s visit to Italy. \nDiscover the FMA’s ongoing collaborations with Former Members Associations beyond Europe. \n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”29921″ img_size=”large” css=””][vc_single_image image=”29923″ css=””][vc_single_image image=”29919″ css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The proposal is the result of the work carried out by the prestigious members of the ad hoc “Reflection Group on the Future of the EU“. The text\, that was created in fruitful collaboration\, further matured during a cycle of events. Concretely\, it contains five general guidelines for the future of Europe and ten concrete proposals for the direction  of the European Union. Importantly\, the proposal considers that the conference should focus on general issues relating to European integration; on how to better protect the rule of law; on the methods to be used for the EU to become increasingly efficient; and on how it can increase its capacity to act and achieve what citizens expect. All that without excluding the possibility of modifying the Treaty. \nThis FMA Proposal to the “Conference on the Future of Europe” can be downloaded in all 24 EU official languages from the FMA website. \n  \nThis conference was the pinnacle of the event\, called “Present Future of Europe”. The “Present Future of Europe” event takes the form of the following three parts: \n(1) the “Present Future of Europe” exhibition\, where some significant documents of the 4 major European Political Foundations are exhibited;\n(2) the High-Level Conference “The Future of Europe starts today”\, focused on the current debate concerning the “Conference on the Future of Europe”;\n(3) the publication of the documents collected in a book ‘The Present Future of Europe’\, with contributions of several important personalities. \n  \nWith the support of: \nWilfried Martens Centre for European Studies; Foundation for European Progressive Studies; European Liberal Forum; Green European Foundation \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kslCt_s8adM” align=”center”][vc_btn title=”REWATCH THE EVENT HERE” size=”lg” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DkslCt_s8adM|target:_blank”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On 21 March 2022\, the inauguration of the exhibition “Present Future of Europe” took place\, organized by the European Parliament Former Members Association and the Historical Archives of the European Union\, in Sala De Gasperi in the European University Institute at Villa Salviati\, Florence\, Italy. \n21 March – 21 April 2022\nThis exhibition introduces the origins of the main political groups in the European Parliament and the activities of four important political foundations through a selection of documents from the Historical Archives of the European Union\, the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies (WMCES)\, the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS)\, the European Liberal Forum (ELF) and the Green European Foundation (GEF). \nThe event was coordinated by Monica Baldi\, Dieter Schlenker & Teresa Riera Madurell.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”20359″ img_size=”full” onclick=”custom_link” link=”https://www.formermembers.eu/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PFE-panel-1.pdf”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”20363″ img_size=”full” onclick=”custom_link” link=”https://www.formermembers.eu/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PFE-panel-2.pdf”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”20418″ img_size=”full” onclick=”custom_link” link=”https://www.formermembers.eu/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PFE-panel-3.pdf”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:FMA Online Conference “Together for the future of Europe” on Green Transition Strategy
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”18784″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] \n\nProgramme\nProfile of Speakers\nSummary of the event\n\n\nFurther information on the FMA events\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On 8 December 2021 from 10.00 to 13.00 the fourth event of the series “Together for the Future of Europe” took place with a focus on  Green Transition Strategy. What a sustainable transition can and should do for Europe. \nThis roundtable discussion was introduced by the FMA President and Former President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Pöttering and moderated by journalist Brian Maguire. \n  \nYou can find here the summary of the event and below the video recording of the event:[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/Yki26AXk8XQ” align=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][vc_column_text]Sub-themes discussed at the conference include: \n\nAn opportunity as vital as the industrial revolution\, because it will fundamentally alter how we live and work.\nAn all ships rising approach is necessary\, we must not leave anyone behind\, everyone must benefit\, and feel they benefit\, or we will weaken our democracy.\nEquality and justice in how we deliver the Green Transition. This is the single most important communitarian policy opportunity Europe has for a generation.\nInnovation and Economy – investing in the Green Transition is an adrenaline shot for the economy\, and from innovation and entrepreneurship will come new SMEs and scale-ups with global competition capacity.\nHealth – we need to live healthier lives: the climate will cause drought for some\, flooding for others\, but climate change is accelerating disease risk too; and famine – which means wars.\nEmployment – up-skillng and re-skilling for the Green Transition is an opportunity to engage all strands of society in a new life-long work format\, which can also nurture good health and social interaction. Replacing old jobs with new and sustainable roles.\nDigital – Europe must compete efficiently and effectively\, globally. Ensuring the Green Transition invests in digital innovation and skills is an accelerator for Europe’s economy and as vital as military defence. We cannot be left behind\, and therefore we must standardise quickly where necessary to ensure a stable investment environment and open markets\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Find here all the information about the Debates on the Future of Europe” color=”info” size=”lg” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.formermembers.eu%2Fannual-events%2Fpolicy-events-cofoe%2F”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
