Leonardo Da Vinci’ secondary school at the HAEU premises as part of the educational programme with focus on the European citizenship topic. \nAbout the educational programme of the HAEU \nThe Historical Archives of the European Union offers tailored educational programmes designed for students of all ages\, from kindergarten to university. These programmes aim to introduce students to important topics related to the history of European integration and to current developments of EU institutions by focusing on the original archival sources preserved in the Archives. The programme creates social spaces for interactive reflection\, discussion and learning about issues related to Europe\, democracy\, and European citizenship. \nThe HAEU educational programme is organised in collaboration with FMA\, the Former Member Association of the European Parliament. FMA Vice-President Monica Baldi and FMA Board Member and EP to Campus coordinator Michael Hindley presented the FMA_HAEU entitled “Participation in Europe”\, which is based on contributions of speakers and guests during the hybrid conference of June 16 2023. The book explores ways to enhance civic education and envision a European landscape where citizens are not just spectators but active architects of their democratic future. The publication is based on contributions of speakers and guests during the hybrid conference on 16 June 2023. The event was opened by FMA President Klaus HÄNSCH. \nFMA Honorary Secretary Teresa RIERA MADURELL introduced the editors and emphasised that “according to the white paper on European governance ‘participation is crucial to achieve more democratic governance in the EU’. Dieter SCHLENKER\, Director of the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) and Valentina RIBOLDI\, Communication Unit Italian Erasmus+ National Agency – INDIRE\, both made a short online intervention\, before having moved on to the Q&A session with the audience in the room and connected online. \nThe event ended with the final remarks of the editors with FMA’s Vice-President Monica Baldi stated that “education is crucial! The book which was a common effort (…) shows that through dialogue\, education and training we can truly achieve a better Europe!” \nFrom 11.00 to 13.00 (Brussels’ time)\, the FMA held its Annual Seminar 2023 on ‘New technological transition: opportunities and challenges’ in the European Parliament\, Brussels. Guest speakers Associate Professor of IT Law at the University of Tartu and Research Fellow at the School of Transnational Governance (EUI)\, Marta CANTERO\, and CEO of the Customized Artificial Intelligence Solutions company Querlo\, Francesco RULLI\, delivered eye-opening and insightful speeches on the opportunities and challenges of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. \nMarta CANTERO GAMITO unpacked the perceived “Trilemma of political governance” and stated that “we stand at the verge of a major transformation – the shift from human to machine decision-making. Ever since the outbreak of Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine\, the EU diplomacy has conveyed powerful messages in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Through diplomatic efforts\, the EU has provided Ukraine with humanitarian\, political\, financial\, and military aid\, has built strong pro-Ukrainian coalitions and sustained the passivity of potentially hostile powers. The speaker was Liliana Rodrigues.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On May 16\, 2023\, the Faculty of Political Sciences together with the European Parliament Former Members Association organized a hybrid debate addressed to students\, within the EP to Campus program initiative. \nThe guest was Mrs. Liliana Rodrigues\, member of the European Parliament in the period 2014-2019\, with a rich activity in the parliamentary committees “Culture and education”\, “Regional development”\, “Human rights”. The title of her address was “European Political Community\, Democracy and Development”\, an extremely current and interesting topic in the context of the second meeting of the European Political Community which will take place on June 1\, 2023 in Chisinau\, in the Republic of Moldova. \nWe had (online and in class) students from various master’s programs belonging to two different structures of SNSPA. It is about students enrolled in specializations in the area of Political Sciences and in the area of International Relations\, as we aim to encourage interdisciplinary debates between our university students\, and to investigate a topical issue from several theoretical and practical perspectives in order to maximize the quality of the analysis and of its results. \nThe topic we chose is that of the European Political Community (EPC)\, because it represents a real interest for all the selected programmes. Taking into consideration the current EPC agenda\, we consider that the role of the European Parliament and its representativeness towards people’s interests are fundamental to create a democratic and efficient\, therefore legitimate\, EPC. We are glad that such a debate benefited from the point of view of an MEP in order to find out how political figures related to the European Parliament itself see its possible involvement in this EPC project. In this respect\, our guest speaker presented a peculiar aspect that is both related to EPC and to the EU\, within the Democracy and Development context\, and that is the cohesion policy. \nMrs. Rodrigues conclusions pointed that „creating a European Political Community may be a possibility to overcome asymmetries in the EU and promote greater political and social integration among member states. However\, this will require continuous commitment to citizen participation\, transparency\, and accountability to ensure that democratic systems are effective in promoting resilience and cohesion in the EU.
