Archives historiques du Parlement européen et mémoires de collection : Parlement européen 1979-2019
L’unité des archives historiques du Parlement européen gère et conserve les documents officiels du Parlement et d’autres documents d’archives datant de 1952, y compris les documents déposés par les députés. L’unité est responsable de l’acquisition, du stockage, du traitement et de l’accessibilité des documents officiels de l’institution. Elle fournit ces documents à la fois en interne aux députés et à l’administration, et en externe aux organisations et aux citoyens, notamment aux chercheurs et aux historiens, grâce à des outils qui facilitent l’accès en ligne à l’information. Elle assiste les chercheurs sur l’histoire du Parlement et de l’intégration européenne, et publie des études historiques basées sur les archives, en utilisant « tout moyen de diffusion ou d’édition documentaire ou académique ». Elles travaillent en étroite collaboration avec la HAEU pour promouvoir l’utilisation des archives et l’étude de l’histoire du Parlement.
Les Archives du Parlement européen conservent les fonds des députés et anciens députés du Parlement européen dont la contribution a été particulièrement importante pour le développement de l’Union européenne. Les documents constituent un témoignage unique du travail politique et parlementaire, retraçant les différentes procédures et le système de travail de la rédaction des rapports parlementaires. En montrant le travail effectué par les députés et leurs assistants, ils illustrent les interactions entre les députés, les groupes politiques et la société civile.
Le projet d’histoire orale “Collecter des souvenirs : Parlement européen 1979-2019” a été lancé à l’occasion du 40e anniversaire des premières élections directes au Parlement. Le projet vise à utiliser les souvenirs personnels des membres du Parlement européen qui ont été témoins de l’évolution du rôle de l’institution comme moyen d’évaluer ce que le Parlement a réalisé ou non depuis 1979.
Le projet comprend des entretiens avec des députés européens menés par une équipe de recherche composée d’Alfredo De Feo, Francis Jacobs, Gerard Laprat, Dietmar Nickel et Michael Shackleton, tous anciens membres du personnel du Parlement.
Le projet a reçu le soutien des Archives historiques de l’Union européenne, de l’Association des anciens députés du Parlement européen et du professeur Christine Neuhold de l’université de Maastricht aux Pays-Bas.
