Ms. Monica Baldi, Vice-President of FMA, participated as a distinguished guest in the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians, held in Ottawa on June 15–16. The meeting featured a series of conferences and events attended by former members of the Canadian Parliament, former members of the United States Congress and former Members of the European Parliament.

Among the highlights of this meeting were the following main points:

Memorial Service for Deceased Parliamentarians – June 16, 2025
Ms. Baldi joined CAFP members, current parliamentarians and special guests at the annual service in the House of Commons Chamber. The event honored former Members of the Canadian Parliament who passed away in the previous year.

Fireside Discussion on the Global Geopolitical Landscape – June 16, 2025
At a luncheon hosted by the CAFP, Ms. Baldi took part in a panel discussion with former U.S. Congresswomen Barbara Comstock and Donna Edwards, and former Canadian Minister Seamus O’Regan. The exchange focused on democratic resilience, disinformation and civic engagement. Ms. Baldi contributed a European perspective, which inspired thoughtful questions and a rich dialogue with attendees.

Annual Dinner of the CAFP – June 16, 2025
During the Annual Dinner, Ms. Baldi highlighted the importance of fostering dialogue and cooperation among former legislators across borders. The evening provided a collegial setting to reflect on shared values and opportunities for collaboration.

Productive Trilateral Meeting
The three associations, EP_FMA, CAFP and US_AFMC, agreed to advance joint initiatives on civic education, democratic engagement and cross-border dialogue on global challenges. This commitment represents a significant step in strengthening the role of former parliamentarians internationally.

Strengthening International Networks – Message from the President of the CAFP
CAFP President Matt DeCourcey reaffirmed the association’s mandate to support democracy in Canada and worldwide. He emphasised the importance of collaboration with European partners and praised Ms. Baldi’s presence in Ottawa as a demonstration of enduring friendship and cooperation between parliamentarians.
