Spanish politician (PSOE) and Member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009. Throughout his political career, he has held a number of leading positions in the European Parliament. From 2004 to 2007, he served as President of the European Parliament. Subsequently, he served as High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission from 2019 to 2024.
