On Monday 29 June 2026, from 17.00 to 18.15 (Brussels time), we will be launching a new online edition of Librorum, featuring the presentation of the book ‘Ón Spidéal go Strasbourg’, written by former MEP Seán Ó NEACHTAIN.

Interpretation will be provided in English and French.

THE BOOK

Summary:

This book recounts the experiences of Ó Neachtain, a native speaker of Irish, within the European Union. It describes in detail the historic political journey that led to Irish becoming a fully-fledged official and working language of the EU, a process strongly supported by advocates such as himself during his term of office. Finally, the text examines how this legislative breakthrough opened up unprecedented opportunities for him to carry out his parliamentary duties and address the European Parliament directly in Gaelic.

Programme:

The event will begin with a welcome address by the FMA’s Vice-President, Monica Baldi, followed by an introduction by Fearghas Ó BÉARA, Head of EPLO Ireland. Michael J. HINDLEY, a member of the FMA’s Board of Directors, will then present the book and its author. The author of the book and former Member of the European Parliament will share his thoughts. The question-and-answer session with the audience will be moderated by Mr Hindley, and the closing address will be delivered by Godelieve QUISTHOUDT-ROWOHL, a member of the FMA Board of Directors.
