On 4 September 2026, the European Parliament Former Members Association of the (FMA) organized an EP to Campus event at the University of Pavia in Venice, Italy.
The conference focused on “75 Years after the Treaty of Paris: The Origins and Future of the European Project”, exploring the evolution of European integration and the challenges that will shape the future of the European Union. The discussion addressed the EU’s political model and examined whether the Union should move towards greater centralisation or reinforce a federal system based on the principle of subsidiarity. This was considered from academic, institutional and social perspectives.
The conference featured speeches by Elmar Brok, Eva Lichtenberger, and Ana Palacio. Elisabetta Fonck delivered the welcome speech, officially opening the event.
Through the EP to Campus programme, the FMA aims to promote dialogue between academia and European institutions, thereby fostering European citizenship and a deeper understanding of the European project’s values, challenges and future directions.
