On Monday 29 June 2026 from 17.00 to 18.15 (Brussels time), we will launch a new online edition of Librorum, featuring the presentation of the book “Ón Spidéal go Strasbourg”, written by former MEP Seán Ó NEACHTAIN.
Interpretation will be available in English and French.
THE BOOK
Summary:
The book explores Ó Neachtain’s firsthand experiences as a native Irish speaker navigating the European Union. It details the historic political journey of making Irish a full official and working language of the EU a process heavily supported by advocates like himself during his tenure. Finally, the text examines how this legislative milestone created unprecedented opportunities for him to engage in parliamentary duties and address the European Parliament directly as Gaeilge.
Programme:
The event will begin with a welcome address by FMA Vice-President Monica Baldi, followed by an introduction by Fearghas Ó BÉARA, Head of EPLO Ireland. FMA Board Member Michael J. HINDLEY will then present the book and its author. The author of the book and Former Member of the European Parliament will offer their reflections. The Q&A session with the audience will be moderated by Mr Hindley, and the closing remarks of the event will be delivered by FMA Board Member Godelieve QUISTHOUDT-ROWOHL.
