On 20 March 2025, former MEP Jo Leinen met with secondary school students at the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) in Florence as part of the educational programme jointly organised with the Former Members Association of the European Parliament (FMA).

Mr Leinen opened the 2025 cycle of this civic education initiative with reflections on the historical evolution of the European Union and its founding values. Drawing on his long parliamentary experience, he engaged students in an open dialogue on the role of European institutions, the importance of citizen participation, and the meaning of European solidarity today.

About the Educational Programme of the HAEU

The Historical Archives of the European Union offers tailored educational programmes designed for students of all ages. These programmes aim to introduce participants to key topics related to the history of European integration and current developments within EU institutions, utilizing original archival sources. The initiative encourages interactive reflection, discussion, and learning on European issues, democracy, and citizenship.

The Topic of This Academic Year

For the school year 2024/2025 the educational programme is focused on the European citizenship topic: The European Union, its institutions and values. Let’s think about it around a TABLE!
