University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign invited Former Member Georgi Pirinski to participate on March 31 (12.00-13.50 CST/19.00-20.50 CET) in Mr Jonathan Larson’s course on “The European Parliament and parliamentarians in everyday life”. He will talk about Employment and Social Affairs.
The first half of the conference was opened to a select public. It was a 50-60 minute discussion about cases of past projects, legislation, initiatives, or crises in which the MEP found it particularly rewarding, vexing, or enlightening to participate.
The second half, 50-60 minutes, was driven by student questions attempting to draw out aspects of the “everyday life” of an MEP that are the heart of this course, informed lightly by how anthropologists and sociologists have attempted to understand the work of policy-makers such as central bankers or even legislators. The majority of students came from the study of political science or law.
