Can the EU learn from experience?

On 16 June, the Historical Archives of the European Union in Villa Salviati will host the event Can the EU learn from experience?.
Organised by the Former Members Association of the European Parliament (EP FMA) with the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) and the Italian National Agency Erasmus+ Indire, the conference will analyse the relationship between young citizens and the European institutions. Through a dialogue with the representatives of the institutions involved, the panellists will illustrate the three programmes developed to increase young people’s understanding, participation and mobility in Europe. Among these, they will discuss the educational programme implemented by the Historical Archives of the European Union and the Association of Former Members of the European Parliament, the EP to Campus programme of the EP FMA and the Erasmus+ programme managed, in Italy, by the Erasmus+ National Agency INDIRE.
A musical performance by the Brass Quintet of the Cherubini Conservatory of Florence will open the event. Institutional greetings from the Secretary-General of the European University Institute Marco Del Panta and the Vice President of the Association of Former Members of the European Parliament Monica Baldi, will follow.
The Director of the Historical Archives of the European Union, Dieter Schlenker, will introduce the proceedings, which will continue with talks by George Papaconstantinou, former Member of the European Parliament and Professor at the EUI School of Transnational Governance; Alain Lamassoure, former Member of the European Parliament; Katia Rossi, Professor at the Elsa Morante State Institute of Higher Education; and Matilde Paoli, student at the Ernesto Balducci State Institute of Higher Education.
The second panel, organised by the Former Members Association of the European Parliament, will be attended – among others – by Michael Hindley and Manuel Porto, FMA Council Managers of the EP to Campus programme; Natalia Cuglesan, Jean Monnet Professor at BabeșBolyai University, Cluj-Napoca in Romania; Dr. M.D. Venkatesh (on video), Vice Chancellor of the Indian University of Manipal; as well as Isabella De Martini and Eva Lichtenberger, former Members of the European Parliament and Riccardo Debrilli, student at LUISS University in Rome.
The last session of the event will explain the Erasmus+ Programme and the value of the international dimension in education, with particular reference to the European Year of Competences and to international cooperation between universities, in order to create new paths in response to the challenges that Europe has to face.
Among the speakers, Themis Christophidou, Director General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission (on video); Sara Pagliai, Coordinator of the National Agency Erasmus+ Indire; Giorgia Giovannetti, Delegate for International Relations at the University of Florence with a representation of three female students who will bring their direct testimony of Erasmus Alumni: Irene Corradori and Federica Roldi, from the University Alliance EUniWell and Elisa De Cassai, from the Department of Engineering.
